Official Lotto Holland Under 21's home long sleeve match issue football shirt from the 1991/92 international season. Complete with #30 printed into the back of the shirt in official numbering.
This is Lotto's rare 'player issue' version of the jersey, manufactured for the players. It features a slimmer fit, an upgraded material mix for increased durability, embroidered manufacturer logo and crest, and a rear number printed into the material. The Under-21's wore the 'blood orange' colour to differentiate between the senior squad. This long sleeve version was not commercially available.

Despite high expectations as the team entered theĀ 1990 World Cup, the tournament was not a success, as strife within the squad and managerial instability (Thijs LibregtsĀ took over from Michels only to be fired shortly after the team qualified, and was replaced byĀ Leo BeenhakkerĀ for the finals) ultimately tore the team apart.
Van Basten failed to score, as he was frequently marked by opposing defenders, while Gullit was ineffective having not fully recovered from injury. The Dutch managed to advance despite drawing all three group games, meeting their arch-rivals West Germany in the round of 16. The match is most remembered for the spitting-incident involvingĀ Frank RijkaardĀ andĀ Rudi VƶllerĀ as the Netherlands lost 2ā1.
The team reached the semi-finals in theĀ Euro '92, which was noted for the emergence ofĀ Dennis Bergkamp, but they were eliminated by eventual championsĀ Denmark, with Van Basten's kick in the penalty shootout being saved byĀ Peter Schmeichel. This was to be Van Basten's last major tournament as he suffered a serious ankle injury shortly after, eventually conceding defeat and retiring at the age of 30 in 1995; it was also the last hurrah for Rinus Michels, who returned for one final spell in charge of the team before retiring for good after the tournament ended.
