After entering liquidation in July 2011 with debts of €2.9 million, and relegated to the fifth tier of French football, Grenoble Foot reformed and began the steady promotion through the French amateur football leagues. For the 2016/17 season, the club won the Championnat de France Amateur to secure promotion to the 2017/18 Championnat National and a return to professional French league football.
